7/11/2007 - EQUINE INFLUENZA - The TB Industry has announced a return to racing in th near future. The NSRA is in discussions with Racing and Primary Industry authorities regarding the return of the Sprinters to the race track.
15/10/2007- EQUINE INFLUENZA - Continues to spread thru” Red” Zones in NSW and QLD. However, the onlly major incident outside of containment areas in NSW at least seems to be at Barmedman in Southern NSW. Hopefully the outbreak can be contained as this is not far from the Victorian Border. Again the outbreak is reported as being transmitted by humans.
Queanbeyan has been approved for a self contained race meeting next week. This is a good sign, but as Sprinters are not in line for vaccination at this time a return to racing is no closer
08/10/2007 - LATEST ON EQUINE INFLUENZA - Equine Influenza is still widespread in NSW and QLD. The epidemic is continuing to spread within the declared “Red” zones but with few cases reported outside of containment.
The bad news for NSRA participants is that the epidemic continues to spread to TB racetracks which means racing opportunities will continue to be restricted for some time to come.
NSRA participants are reminded that personal and animal hygiene should be paramount during this outbreak as it has been widely reported that infections continue to be transmitted by humans or human error in maintenance of biosecurity arrangements.
21/09/2007 - SOME MOVEMENT - of horses is now allowed in NSW with the State now “Zoned” relating to the risk posed by infected horses in various areas. The majority of Sprint Horses are in the Southern part of the State which is now Green Zone with some movement of horses allowed. Racing is still restricted as further outbreaks of EI have been detected in the TB population in Sydney and Southern QLD.
LOCKDOWN CONTINUES - on the East Coast of Australia. Some racing is being conducted at self contained venues while the equine community awaits the “burn out” of the EI outbreak.
There is currently no end to the lockdown in sight and equine events thru to the end of November have largely been cancelled
EQUINE INFLUENZA - several North Queensland properties and additional breeding establishments in the Hunter Valley have now been identified as having confirmed cases of Equine Flu.
As the outbreak has not been totally contained there is still a total lock down of horse movements.
Racing may be approved in some cases at self contained venues where sufficient disease free horses are stabled - this will not include Sprint Racing
EQUINE INFLUENZA - With EI now found in horses stabled at Randwick, racing in NSW is cancelled indefinitely.
It had been hoped that the outbreak had been contained and racing would recommence in the near future. However, this will not be the case.
We will advise of future racing opportunities as they come to hand. At the time of writing the Equine Industry is still in total lockdown in NSW.
24/08/2007 - EQUINE INFLUENZA - It is likely that with the outbreak of Equine Influenza and the complete lockdown of the Equine Industry that NSRA sanctioned racing at Queanbeyan on 1 September 2007 will not occur.
Trainers of horses currently nominated will be kept informed over the next few days.
The Jockey training organised for Sunday 26 August has regrettably been cancelled.
