VICTORIAN RACING QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION
The VRQHA was originally an affiliate of the now defunct Australian Racing Quarter Horse Association (ARQHA) racing once at Bacchus Marsh in 1999.
After the demise of the ARQHA, the VRQHA became a founding member of the AQHA Sprint Racing Advisory Committee (SRAC) in 1999 and retained a seat on the Board until 2002.
VRQHA Committee Members Maureen Milburn and Robin Morgan attended the first SRAC meeting in Canberra and the VRQHA was closely involved in development of SRAC national rules and policies. Minutes of the first SRAC Meeting can be found here.....
The VRQHA was invited to race under the Mixed Sports Gathering Permit allocated to the Victorian Arabian Jockey Club (VAJC) to conduct alternate breed racing at Great Western TB race track in Western Victoria in both 2000 & 2001. The Victorian Government Minister for Racing at that timeapproved the addition of Sprinters to the program and issued a Press Release relating to Alternate Breed Racing which can be found here.....on the Victorian Government website. All Sprint Racing at Great Western during that era was conducted under the SRAC Rules of Racing.
Further information on racing at Great Western, including several non SRAC/NSRA sanctioned race meetings can be found here....
The VRQHA was not invited to participate at Great Western post 2001 when formal complaints relating to VRQHA Officials were lodged by the Great Western TB Race Club with both the VRQHA and the AQHA.
The VRQHA subsequently raced successfully under SRAC Rules of Racing at Chiltern in Northern Victoria, but following an unresolved dispute relating to horse identity, breaches of Victorian Animal Welfare Policies and AQHA Rules, the VRQHA withdrew from the (then) AQHA-RD.
